Living during different times, their contrasting views were influenced by what they experienced. Thomas Hobbes lived through one of most bloodiest wars ever, the â€Å"English Civil War†; and making him view mankind and evil and beastly. In 1651, the English Civil War inspired Hobbes to write is famous, â€Å"Leviathan†. It studied physical bodies and human nature. Hobbes viewed people and society as materialistic and mechanical. He defined human will as, â€Å"the last appetite before choice†. Although he viewed mankind as unthinking, he did believe that man can prosper from the use of science. Hobbes viewed mankind in a very negative way. He claimed that people had a strong desire to attain power. Hobbes saw the original human state as corrupted and evil. He saw people as self-centered monsters without a master. In his view, the only way to prevent people from acting out of sorts was to impose a tightly ruled government, known as absolutism. He thought that a strong ruler could control the negative aspects of man. He believed that absolute rulers should have complete unlimited power. Hobbes did not care who was in power, as long as it was an absolute ruler. John Locke also was a renowned writer. In 1690, he wrote, â€Å"Essay concerning Human Understanding†. Unlike Hobbes, Locke described the human mind as a blank tablet at birth. He said that no one was born good or evil, but that the society people grow up in influences their morality. Locke showed his disapproval with Hobbes’ claim that rulers were absolute in power when he wrote, â€Å"Two Treatises of Government†. Locke believed that an absolute monarchy was inconsistent and no form of civil government. He believed that the best form of government was a limited constitutional monarchy. In contrast to Hobbes, Locke believed that it was important to protect the rights of life, health, liberty, and possessions. Locke has five main points concerning the rights of the people. First; all men are born with certain undeniable rights concerning life, liberty, and property. Second; the purpose of the government is to protect those rights. Third; the purpose of society is to protect those rights. Fourth; the rights of people can not be denied without due process. Lastly; if any government fails to protect these rights or denied these rights, people have the right of revolution. His last point is the most revolutionizing one of all, because for the first time in European history, someone claims that people have the right to rebel if treated unjustly. Thomas Hobbes and John Locke had very different views when it comes to the state and right of mankind. Hobbes viewed mankind as inherently evil and as savage beasts. While Locke claimed humans were born clean and pure, but it is society that influences the evil. Hobbes wanted an absolute monarchy to control the wild nature of man. The inaccuracy of sensory information is based our experiences in life or what we experiencing at any given moment. Our sight, smell, hearing, taste, and feel are part of our physical awareness. Each sense collects information about how we view the world, self and things, which detects changes within our body, mind and thought patterns (Carter, Aldridge, Page, and Parker. 2009, p.76). Our senses may not deliver accurate data to our brain if our thoughts are not clear. We have been alerted by scientist and philosophers that our sensory information is superficiality (Kirby and Goodpaster. 2007, p.56). All through our life, our senses have enriched our brain in which the senses and the brain are link as we think (p.55). Our inaccuracy of sensory information is limited when there’s an illness, lost of job, exhausted, or death. When demands we face exceeds our ability to meet them, we will feel stressed or anxiety, which affect our ability to use our sensory information. Jack the Ripper was one of the most famous and renowned killers in history. Even though he was not the first serial killer, he was the first killer to strike on a metropolis setting. Jack the Ripper was in his prime at a time when the media had a strong control over society and society as a whole was becoming much more literate. Jack started his killing campaign at a time of political controversy between the liberals and social reformers along with the Irish Home rule partisans. The reports of Jack the Ripper were collected and reported by the police, but then the different newspapers with their political influences slightly distorted the stories to give them their own effect. It has been more the one hundred years since the last murder and there is no longer any more original evidence, and the â€Å"facts† about the stories have changed over time due to different writers or differing sources. The press changed Jack the Ripper from being a depressed killer of prostitutes to on e of the most romantic figures seen throughout history. One fact that most sources agreed upon was that the Ripper was a killer who wanted nothing more than to strike fear into the entire city by horribly mutilating his victims and then leaving them in locations where they were sure to be seen. Jack was the type of killer that wants fame and loved the fact that his â€Å"name† was on everyone’s lips and was able to strike fear into anyone and everyone’s heart. In the late 1800’s â€Å"Jack the Ripper† began his rampage of killings. He was a serial killer who murdered several prostitutes in the East End of London in 1888. The people of London, mainly the press at the time, dubbed this killer, â€Å"Jack the Ripper.† The name was given to the killer because at the time of the murders, a person wrote a letter to the police and press claiming to be this serial killer, and he had called himself, â€Å"Jack the Ripper.† These killings took place in the districts of Aldagate, City of London proper, Spitalfields, and Whitechapel which all happen to be within a mile radius of each other. Within these different districts, he was given different names depending on the stories that were told about the killings some of these other names that the serial killer â€Å"Jack the Ripper† was given were Whitechapel Murderer, which was an extremely creative and original name, and â€Å"Leather Apron,† which is presumed to reference the... ...se â€Å"search parties† one can find on the internet is board-line obsessive and insane. What people need to learn to accept is that their questions and puzzles they stubble upon in life will not always be answered. It is a very sick and sadistic cycle of being deranged enough to plan out a murder so that no one will be able to catch that person, but at the same time being smart enough to be able to do all this. Health Care Rights

Should you have to work for your health care or is it a right that should be given. March 21, 2013 Have you ever been in a car accident and the air bag deployed? It may have saved your life and you start to become thankful for having air bags in your vehicle. Now if an air bag weren’t place in the car then you would heighten the risk of getting injured and dying. This is also the same concept that goes with healthcare and us. If healthcare weren’t available to everyone then we would heighten the risk of dying if we get ill or injured.Healthcare should be a standard role in everyone’s lives just how airbags are standard in all cars that are produced in today’s society. That is why healthcare should be an essential and prominent right that should be given to everyone who needs it, because we all need it as our airbag to stay alive. Lets start backwards to get some information on how healthcare has formed throughout history. President Teddy Roosevelt was the first to push universal health care for all Americans during 1912. 1 Health insurance was largely unavilable at the time.Doctors were not as extremely educated enough about diseases to really provide much useful care to sick people and there for they didn’t charge very much. The Social Security Act became establish as a system of federal old-age benefits and to provide states with funds to build local health departments. This took place during the great depression (1935), when Franklin D. Roosevelt was president. Around this time doctors began learning more about diseases and effective treatments. In 1946, the hospital survey and construction act was past.This act gave states access to federal grants to help pay for the maintenance and construction of public health centers. When President Eisenhower was in office, he past the Internal Revenue Act and authorize military Medicare. These acts created tax exclusion for many employers to provided benefits and extend health insuran ce to dependents. The supply of health insurance increased as commercial insurance companies entered the market. The Union negotiations also reinforce the employment-based health insurance system. The use of healthcare increased as medical technology became more ophisticated and cost started to rise. The government started to encourage employers to offer health insurance as part of employee compensation packages. The problem that came up is that those who retired from their job lost their health insurance. Speeding the process up we enter 1965, were Medicare and Medicaid programs are past in order to provide the elderly with medical coverage. Currently we have a good understand on the development of healthcare. This 20th century healthcare has been getting out of control. There are a number of factors that has drive the cost of healthcare sky high.This is from medical technology, increasing medication costs, and problems with managed care systems. There are a large number of America ns who don’t have health insurance and can testify that the healthcare system needs to be reform. The 2 primary issues of healthcare that needs to be reform are the available access to healthcare and the affordability of healthcare. Many Americans, with and without health insurance, face crippling financial debt from their medical care. The big question is what should be done with this large healthcare problem?Should healthcare be a right given to Americans or should you have to work for it? First of all the Declaration of Independence clearly states that all men have the unalienable right to â€Å"Life†. If we don’t have health care to support that natural right then we are like in an ocean that we can fish in all we want but without any supplies to do so. Second of all the Preamble of the Constitution states that its purpose is to â€Å"promote the general welfare† which health care has to be included into this idea because it helps promote the general welfare of the people by taking care of them.In addition, if we give everyone healthcare then people will be able to live longer and more durable lives that can help them work harder to help stimulate our economy. Also, Americans suffer from uninsurance from about $65-130 billion annually due to medical bills. [1] In 2007 62% of all US bankruptcies were related to medical expenses and 78% of these bankruptcies were filed by people who had medical insurance. [2]That is crazy when you think about how much debt Americans are in right now and medical expenses cause a majority of it. All that money could be saved and help the American people get out of debt and stop mooching of the government so much. In addition, if a disease came out of nowhere and started spreading through the American population then so many people would get ill and not go to the hospital. They are nervous of the medical expenses awaiting them and how it could financially ruin them. This would devastate our country w ith such ignorance because the disease might kill thousands and cracking the foundation of our society.Also, health care is an important and crucial service for our society just like public schools and fire department services. Our tax money goes to those services, which help lives, but health care is somehow different, I don’t understand that concept. However other people say no to having healthcare open to everyone for multiple reasons. The role of the government is to protect the rights of individuals to freely pursue their own interests in the economic marketplace without violations of their liberty through coercion, manipulation, or fraud. [3] 9 With this being the main point, no one has a right to health care.They state that most people wont fall into medical problems if they choose a healthy lifestyle and prevent these problems from happening. In addition, they say that since healthcare will be open to everyone that hospitals will back up with patients and it will take everyone longer to get their treatment and diagnoses. This can lead to major dissatisfaction with the people and maybe death if they are treated too late due to this act which was suppose to help this person live. In addition, they state that since healthcare will be placed on the government now, they must spend more money, which would get them into more debt. 4]Then as a result the government might have to higher taxes and hurt the economy and individual wallets. Also, since the free market rules healthcare right now, this allows competition to flourish between companies which can help create the best services and most advanced technology made for health. In addition, people might develop a problem know as â€Å"moral hazard† which means that people might take riskier actions because they know healthcare already covers them if they get injured. All these points are wrong and narrowed minded views of ignorant people.Giving healthcare to people will definitely save more lives then what’s happening now. This will also help cause the economy to grow because the taxes put on the people due to this change doesn’t even compare to the hospital bills we pay now. In addition, I believe that the government can create more advanced services and technology due to size of our government’s wallet and spending budget compared to a small company. Also, people wont be stupid enough to kill themselves because healthcare might save there lives, that is just crazy and extremely childish to put your life in harms way.That idea doesn’t even compare to scope of mankind’s morals right now. In conclusion, we should let everyone have healthcare provided for him or her. This helps stimulate economic growth in multiple areas of our society and keeps the money flowing. In addition, a lot of American people will be pulled out of medical expenses, which they can use their money to put to better uses like food and the necessities of life. Also, this helps secure a natural human right that our society’s foundation was built upon ever since the founding of this free nation of ours.This position also helps focus on the idea that healthcare should not be earned by hard work but instead given to Americans as their natural right. By making the right to health care a special case of rights to equality of opportunity, we arrive at a reasonable, albeit incomplete and imperfect. It’s a way of restricting its scope while still recognizing its importance. President, new business development, Gillette Safety Razor Division (SRD) Problem: Ralph needs to achieve company targets for earnings growth for his division by developing a new business product. Ralph has commissioned an extensive investigation into the blank cassette tape market and he views this market as poised for substantial growth and opportunity over the long-term range of ten to fifteen years. Ralph feels that his division is well positioned to enter the market through utilization of its many core strengths. Market Overview The current blank tape market segment has many weaknesses, such as, lack of widespread distribution, lack of media coverage, poor product display and packaging, and lack of a true market leader. These weaknesses in the blank cassette tape market are all areas where Gillette has developed strong core competencies in their Safety Razor Division. The blank cassette tape market is segmented into three distinct product markets: Professional quality, Standard Quality, and Budget Quality and within those segments there are recording lengths of 30, 60, 90 and 120 minute cassette tapes. Bingham’s consultants have focused on the 60-minute cassette tape market in particular. Gillette Safety Razor Division Decisions Gillette has four product options: 1. ) do not enter market. 2. ) enter professional tape market 3. ) enter standard tape market. 4. ) enter the budget tape market. The professional quality market offers the greatest margin on products, but it is also the smallest segment in the market. The professional segment will also have the most competition as more established tape makers enter the market. As such, the fierce competition may potentially saturate the market and decrease the margins on these tapes and make it less appealing in the long run. Alternatively, standard tape market has moderate margins, but is a highly growing segment and is ready for a market leader, such as a company like Gillette. Lastly, the budget market has the lowest profit margins, the highest volume sales, but also requires a high volume of sales in order to be profitable due to the significant fixed costs associated with manufacturing. Gillette’s manufacturing constraints make it difficult for Gillette to enter the budget product market and Gillette would not want to damage its brand name by affiliating with a lower end product such as the budget quality tapes. (See appendix for quantitative analysis) Recommendations & Conclusions The Gillette Safety Razor division should enter the Standard Quality 60-minute cassette tape market and target the teenager and student market as it is a growing segment and offers much potential. Gillette should distribute the tapes using their established channels and wholesalers. Gillette should promote this new line through an aggressive advertising program as a high standard quality tape free from the defects of budget cassette tapes and with greater quality than the average standard tape. Gillette should leverage its brand name to promote the quality and value of these tapes. Gillette’s pricing for the standard quality tapes should be priced at the regular retail price with the design that consumers will choose Gillette’s product and pay more than the discounted brands due to Gillette’s high quality and brand name. In this scenario, Gillette’s monthly break-even quantity would be 518,758 units and it would make a monthly profit of $92,867 if it conservatively sells 750,000 units/mo. in year one. Annualized, the company’s net profit would be $1,114,400 at 9,000,000 units sold. Â

A suicide attempt is often a cry for help that ends in a tragedy. In eight out to ten suicides the person has spoken about their intent before killing themselves. In many cases, their impact can be mitigated, or their prostrating mind will gradually decrease if the person is able to make constructive choices about dealing with the crisis when it is at its worst. In some cases exceeding deaths by motor vehicle accidents annually. Many countries spend limitless amounts of money on safer roads, but very little on suic! ide awareness and prevention, or on educating people about how to make good life choices. They need someone to take them and their emotional pain and discouragement seriously. What is usually most helpful is to encourage them to express them-selves without telling them how they should feel or think. In the vast majority of cases a suicide attemptor would choose differently if they were not in great distress and were able to evaluate their options objectively. Most suicidal people give warning signs in the hope that they will be rescued, because they are intent on stopping their emotional pain, not on dying. Suicidal people need friends who will listen patiently and show they care, and referral to a professional if possible. Since this can be extremely difficult, so we may be better able to recognize and help other people in crisis, and also to find how to seek help or make better choices ourselves. People usually attempt suicide to block unbearable emotional pain, which is caused by a wide variety of problems. A person attempting suicide is often so distressed that they are unable to see that they have other options. We can help prevent a tragedy by trying to understand how they feel and helping them to look for better choices that they could make. Suicidal people often feel terribly isolated because of their distress, they may not think of anyone they can turn to, furthering this isolation. ?In particular, those with satisfactory professional qualifications and those who earn a normal living, appear in normal proportion." It may also be a combination of the two. The question of mental illness is a difficult one because both these kinds of depression may have similar symptoms and effects.
